Q: How long does therapy take? A: Progress takes place across the span of several sessions. On average, people meet with a therapist on a weekly basis for 50-minutes, anywhere from 12 (brief therapy) sessions and up, depending on the severity of the presenting concern.
Q: What sorts of things does therapy help with? A: While therapy can be used to treat stress and alleviate mental health disorders. It can also be a conduit to help us improve our lives, our relationships, our ability to achieve our personal, and professional goals.By increasing our coping repertoire and raising attention to the connection between thoughts, emotions, physical responses, and behaviors, clients also often experience improvements in their physical health and mood.
Q: How do I chose the therapist that is "right" for me? A: Start by reading Meet Our Staff, where you will find our bios and contact information. Then, give your therapist a call for complementary phone consultation (up to 10 minutes). Getting your questions answered is the best way to determine therapeutic fit.
Q: What are the office hours? A: Availability is appointment only.
Q: What is the cost of the sessions? A: Cost per session is $200.
Q: Is medical insurance accepted for forensic or for immigration assessments? A: Medical insurance may only be used for cases involving medical necessity, and not for legal or forensic matters.
Q: Are debit or credit cards accepted? A: Credit cards with the Visa or Master Card logo are for copayments only (Maximum charge is $50) and not accepted for other services.
Q: Do you provide a sliding scale? A: Absolutely, neither economic problems nor lack of insurance should become a deterrent to pursuing therapy. Sometimes it is under strained economic conditions when people experience greater need. Based on income, the fees can be lower.
Q: Do you accept insurance? A: Dr. Kaneshiro does accept some of the most major insurance carriers. However, prior to setting up an appointment, it is recommended that you contact your insurance to verify your coverage, deductible and copay.
Q: What if we are not on your provider's network? A: If you have a "PPO" plan, you may be eligible to have a part of our fee covered by your insurance carrier. Although fees will be collected the day of the appointment, you will receive a "superbill" to seek reimbursement. As with any question regarding benefits, please consult with your insurance company to determine your benefits and exact reimbursement amount, if any.
Q: Does insurance pay for the entire treatment or session? A: Please contact your insurance carrier to determine your individual coverage, deductible and copay. Managed Health-Care plans such as HMOs and PPOs often require authorization before they provide reimbursement for mental health services. These plans are often limited to short-term treatment approaches designed to work out specific problems that interfere with a person’s usual level of functioning. After insurance benefits end patients may be required to go through a stringent approval process for added sessions. Also, some managed-care plans will not allow for services to be continued once your benefits end. If this is the case, a referral will be provided should you wish to continue with your treatment.
Q: Anything else I should know about using insurance to help finance my treatment? A: The most common concerns include lowered confidentiality (i.e., having to provide treatment plans, divulge diagnosis, etc.); limits to the treatment (some companies will only provide treatment for parity diagnosis); and limits imposed on the treatable conditions (only certain diagnosis are granted full coverage). Also, having insurance coverage does not guarantee you will save money on your treatment. For example, in some cases insurance reimbursement may occur only after an annual deductible has been met. Of course, some insurance policies provide better coverage than others. Therefore, please contact your insurance company to ask about your coverage before making a decision.
Q: When are payments due? A: All fees are due and payable at the time when services are rendered.
